New Kit for Primary Schools in Crawley

brand new kit for northgate, bewbush and seymour primary schools

Below shows the football kit the pupils created at Northgate, Bewbush and Seymour Primary schools, based upon their school's values.

Gary Pleece and his community interest company VYD (Value Your Development) have been working in local schools in order to help get students creatively active in their education. We produced kit before for his Foodball Project he did with The Crew Club and Moulescombe Primary School.

bringing primary school pupils together

The project was for pupils who didn’t have any interest in, or like, football. The idea has helped to get students involved as part of a community value set together, rather than just those that enjoy football. This inclusive community spirit and value set is seen emblazoned on the shirts.

Gary’s programme, Zona, works with various age ranges, they are encouraged to design an identity on a football kit, a badge identity and story around that badge.

designing the badge

The pupils studied the badge and made a story behind it and incorporated the schools’ symbols and values especially with the slogan “Respect All, Fear None” the bespoke rainbow pattern on the shirt and shorts symbolising the schools ‘five’ values; be polite, bring a positive attitude, try our best, take pride in the school, make the right choices.

designing the kit

The students are given a blank canvas so they can go crazy with the kit, however they want it to have relevance to who they’re playing for.

Part of the programme is to encourage sloganeering, rather than putting a corporate Emirates or a gambling company, they put a motivational statement that’s going to motivate the team.

NEW KIT FOR MATT RATANA RUGBY FOUNDATION MEN’S AND WOMEN’S TEAM

The Matt Ratana Rugby Foundation was set up in response to the tragic death of police Sergeant and rugby coach, Matt Ratana.

On Friday 25 September 2020, Matt Ratana, Head Coach of East Grinstead RFC was tragically killed whilst on duty in his role as Custody Sergeant.

Aside from his work in the police, Matt worked tirelessly as a rugby coach for all ages and mentor to young people. He spoke often to his various teams of the importance of ‘ Whānau’, which in Maori means, your community, your family. He was an inspirational leader, friend and teacher.

He was wholly inclusive and ran teams from the very young through to the men’s and women’s senior teams, as well as encouraging all ages to engage with the sport.

He inspired so many, and The Matt Ratana Rugby Foundation works to build a legacy that he would have been proud of.

Funds raised by The Matt Ratana Rugby Foundation support the design and delivery of initiatives that support community and school’s rugby both nationally and internationally.

The charity aims to support local training, exchange experiences and invest in improving equipment and facilities at clubs across the UK, New Zealand and South Africa.

On 20th August everyone gathered, in Hazelwood, for the first renewal of the annual showcase fixture. Two games were held in aid of the foundation, men's and women's. The women’s game, London Irish Emeralds vs MRRF Vixens where the Vixens were triumphant in a 0-39 win, the men’s game saw England Police win against MRRF Marauders 32-12.

My Club’s Peter Mitchell is the Director of Rugby for the MRR Foundation. He assisted with the kit from beginning to end and made sure it truly represented Matt. The colour black signifies his proud New Zealand and Māori heritage and his All Blacks national team. The blue is an international icon, recognising police as the line which keeps society from descending into violent chaos. Matt dedicated his working life to protecting others.
